CANYON AND CAPRI

DESIGNER ALLAN KNIGHT, KNOWN FOR HIS WORK WITH STUNNING CLEAR LUCITE, DELVES INTO THE WORLD OF ACRYLIC COLOURS AND MEDITERRANEAN VIBES FOR HIS LATEST DINING AND LIGHTING PIECES  IN A WORLD OF OIL RICH DESIGN, ALLAN KNIGHT, TEXAS DESIGNER EMERGES FROM THE SOUTHERN UNITED STATES AS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. HIS WORK IS INFLUENCED BY NATURE AND JUXTAPOSED WITH MODERN TECHNOLOGIES AND MATERIAL THAT DEFINES EACH PIECE IN HIS BEAUTIFUL COLLECTIONS.

Designs for dining are no exception as Mr Knight shows here the power of smoked Lucite for an incredible dining piece, and yet more European sway in the Capri chandelier.

Mediterranean Meditation

Casual conversations will flourish under and around the glimmer of this limited edition fantasy chandelier from Allan Knight & Associates. It seems that we are constantly given a diet of more traditional lighting fixtures, but this piece is a deliberate and seductive entreaty to cheat. The authentic gold gilt finish stands in relief next to the generous clusters of precious citrine gemstones. The Allan Knight Gemstone Chandelier Collection® welcomes the ‘Capri’ Chandelier’. With a body of hand-forged iron, this lighting fixture, with it’s twinkling golden halogen lights, is made to impress. The Capri gets its name from the naturally spectacular flora and fauna that surrounds the coastline of the Mediterranean. From his many trips to the region, Mr. Knight accumulated considerable respect for that region of the world. In a conversation with Interior Design Today, he admits “there are few places in the world that have the kind of immediate effect on me as does that of the Mediterranean coastline”. The namesake isle is of special importance as he was a young adult when he first traveled there. “It is like seeing Paris for the first time. You never forget it. The impact of the lush landscape transformed my personal style forever. This is a tribute to that time and place. Luscious and overwhelming details are my favorite way to add impact and emotion to my lighting. It is one of my true loves”. Shining like the sun, it is a reminder of beautiful vacations of trips of summers past. Like an ethereal gift that remains untouched, it will always be ready to light the great times to come!

Supercharged Glam

In a continuation of a theme of extravagantly elegant furnishings, Mr Knight has capitalised his years of experience working with acrylic to create the new Canyon dining table. Sable acrylic is a glistening amber color and lends itself beautifully to warm environments. Created as a counterpart to the better-known clear acrylic, this new addition has the added benefit of being able to offer a vintage air to contemporary or even traditional environments. “We worked on the colour of the raw material for a couple of years. Acrylic can be an unforgiving medium to those without the experience. The decision to take the plunge and explore coloured material was a little scary as it was a departure from the clear acrylic furnishings for which we are so well known. But when you see the finished product in person, one can understand my drive to create this specific color; a color for which we alone know the recipe”! When asked about his inspiration, Mr. Knight conveyed, “Every time period has a colour that leaps to the forefront of ones mind immediately and helps define it. In developing this colour, I saw the devilishly sleek environs of some of the movies from my youth. The television brought us such fun and fanciful collaborations between set design and wardrobe. I always loved the idea of creating for the big screen something gorgeous and sly, just like the starlets that graced the films of the 50s and 60s.” Allan concludes, “We created the entire set of furnishings for the character Pamela Ewing in the reprisal of the international hit TV show ‘Dallas’, so it seems to be in my blood”.www.allan-knight.com
